The Fleming Collection is the finest collection of Scottish art in private hands and the only dedicated museum granting public access to Scottish art all year round. The collection comprises over 750 oils and watercolours from 1770 to the present day including works by Raeburn, Ramsay, Wilkie, and the iconic paintings of the Highland Clearances, The Last of the Clan by Thomas Faed and Lochaber No More by John Watson Nicol. It is particularly noted for its works by William McTaggart, the Glasgow Boys, D.Y. Cameron, Anne Redpath and a superb group of paintings by the Colourists. It remains a living collection through further acquisitions, focusing in particular on young Scottish artists.

Selected works from the Permanent Collection are displayed in Gallery Two which opened to the public in June 2011. Temporary exhibitions, drawn from both private and national collections, are held in Gallery One.

Wilhelmina Barns-Graham: A Scottish artist in St Ives
10 January – 5 April 2012

A Centenary Exhibition in association with The Barns-Graham Charitable Trust
Curated by Lynne Green

Born in St Andrews and trained at Edinburgh College of Art, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham first went to the burgeoning artist's colony of St Ives, Cornwall, in 1940, aged 28. She was a young artist in need of the inspiration and recognition of a stimulating and exciting artistic community, and her move south would see her work flourish and her reputation become tied forever to the School of St Ives, where she painted until her death in 2004.

While identified as 'one of Britain's most senior abstract painters', her early close association with Ben Nicholson, Barbara Hepworth, and Naum Gabo, and later with figures such as Roger Hilton, has been seen in her native country as providing 'a historic link between Scotland and St Ives'.The exhibition is accompanied by a new publication Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, A Scottish artist in St Ives by Lynne Green.
